The club has a full programme of projects and activities and wishes to extend these to meet other local needs. The club also wants to encourage more people to experience the friendship and goodwill of Rotary within all sectors of the community that we serve.

 HERE ARE SOME OF THE  PROJECTS AND ACTIVITIES OF THE ROTARY CLUB OF THE SOUTH COTSWOLDS

 ANNUALLY: - ( NB. The Rotary year runs from 1st July to 30th June)

A Car treasure hunt for members and friends in September.

Fundraising ‘ Rotary Horseless Team Event' ( HTE ) in Badminton Park in October.

A Bonfire & Fireworks Spectacular in Tetbury in November.

A Carol Service for members and friends in December. 

Rotary District 1100 Conference at a seaside resort in the spring. 

A Duck Race on the River Avon at Malmesbury on Easter Monday.

Rotary District 'Kids Out' Day in June.

 

 

Some other highlights of the past 6 years

 

2000/2001

Falklands veteran Simon Weston OBE,  attended HTE when £17,462 was raised for charity.

Main Beneficiaries:  The Weston Spirit(£5000 ) and Cruse Bereavement Care ( £4000 ).

 

Two Aquabox 30's ( providing clean water for a village ) and 10 Standard Aqua Boxes sent to disaster areas.

The Oriel Singers concert held in Malmesbury Abbey.

 

2001/2002

Guest personalities Lord Oaksey and swimmer Jaime King attended HTE.

 

Main Beneficiaries:  Breakthrough Breast Cancer (£4500 )& Whizz Kids (£ 2750 ).

 

Club visits to  Highgrove and Duchy Home  Farms.

Easter Duck Race on River Avon raises £1200 for local hospitals.

Club visit to RFU Headquarters at Twickenham.

140 redundant computers  collected, reprogrammed and shipped to South African schools.

 

2002/2003

Concert in Malmesbury Abbey  by the Symphony Orchestra of Neiderberg.

Profit from 19th HTE, raised  £16,414 for charity.

 

Main beneficiaries: Macmillan Cancer Relief ( £4000 ) & Wiltshire Life Education Centre (£3000 ).

 

RCSC's Beaujolais Run team raise £1800 for Children in Need.

Unwanted tools collected for the charity 'Tools for Self Reliance'.

 

2003/2004

Opening of new A&E Wing at Royal United Hospital Bath.  RCSC contibuted £3000 for a Rotary Ward.

The 20th HTE raise a record £23,180 for charity.

The main beneficiaries were: Diabetes UK( £4500 ), Tetbury Hospital (4000 ), Malmesbury Hopsital ( £4000 ) &

Diabetes UK £4,000.

Rotary 'Coping With Life' CD's presented to all local primary and secondary schools.

The Club visited Jaguar Cars at Coventry.

RCSC  plans to spearhead a £30,000 project to create a 'Rotary Glade' of 100 Maples at Westonbirt Arboretum to celebrate the Centennial of Rotary International in 2005.

 

2004/05

BBC Points West Walking Club joined HTE competitors at Badminton, swelling the number of entrants to 1352.

Main Beneficiaries: ECG Machine at GRH Renal Unit ( £7600 ) & Myasthenia Gravis Association ( £5100 ).

RCSC collected £5000 for Tsunami relief on New Year's Eve.

We organised a concert by the Adjutant General's Corp at Malmesbury Abbey.

 The first Maple tree was planted in the Rotary Glade at Westonbirt by  Rotary's National  President.

A Stock Exchange evening provided lots of fun and raised £1500 for charity.

 

2005/06

20 Rotary Centenary Community Awrds presented to ' unsung heroes'  in Tetbury & Malmesbury.

The ' Naked Gardeners' attended the 22nd HTE.

Main Beneficiaries: British Heart Foundation ( £3300 ) & The Alzheimer's Society ( £3000 ).

A new Mercedes minibus was presented to Burton Hill School, Malmesbury.

HRH The Prince of Wales planted the final tree in THe Rotary Glade at Westonbirt.

The Rotary Glade project wins Rotary's National Public Relations award.
