The Pasty

| 1 The Cornishman do love his Pasty He thinks it is quite a treat. Some foods are orrid an nasty, But a Pasty is ansome to eat. |
2 It can be eaten in various ways Cold, warm, or straight from the hob But, whichever the way, whatever you say It is a real proper job. |
| 3 The Pastys been with us for ages And will be with us for evermore. Its good for your health, so try one your self Youll definitely come back for more. |
4 For the Cornish who marched for Trelawney The Pasty was their staple diet They used them to scat to the English And suggested that they ought to try it. |
| 5 They crossed the Tamar land to land The Severn was no stay With one and all & pasty in hand They marched along the way. |
6 Trelawney, locked in Londons tower, A lonely wight, said he, If I survive, pray theyll contrive To save a pasty for me. |
| 7 A funny shape the pasty, And what is put inside? We have to turn to history To help us to decide. |
8 The shape, I heard Was not absurd, and for miners gave a crust with dirty hands to hold on to and throw away with the dust |
| 9 But twas not so For long ago, the Cornish Huers they waited On the lonely rugged clifftops Until the storms abated. . |
10 There they stood, Misunderstood, shouting out, poor souls Hevva, Hevva, here they come The enormous pasty shoals. |
| 11 Hence the shape, I will be bound. They were but fish with crust around Which with the Huers disappeared And are no longer found |
12 And now, meat and veg Fill up the wedge, giving a richer diet. Potatoes, turnip ( the English say Swede ), And Onions- ansome, just try it. |
